I have a problem I was hoping to get some help on. Some times, Oregon State University has classes for people who aren't students, thus are not members of the Oregon State University network. They are, however, members of the Corvallis network. I want to make events for these classes. I am an admin for the Oregon State University network. I know people not belonging to my network won't see the event on their event page, but if I send them a link, would they be able to see it? Is there a way to mass invite people not of a network, to one of that network's events? Or would an admin for the Corvallis network have to make an event?

Thank you

That's a good question. I look forward to seeing the answer to that.

I finally found out how to do this. You have to create an event as a user, not an admin. Events created by users generate a link that can be sent to people who are not only part of a different network but also to those not even part of the system yet.

It might still be worth considering asking a network administrator for the Corvallis network to create the event within their network. It just depends upon your business needs.

You created a private event, which has some consequences worth considering:

> the only way to access the event in the system is to click a link you received from someone via email. You can't find these events otherwise. The iCarpool system only shows network events to site visitors, not private events. That means your private event won't show up for folks who visit Drive Less Connect without using your specific event link and won't show up in listings generated by the event widget.

> ridematching to a private event is limited to event participants only; you will not receive matches with others in the system who are traveling at similar times and to similar locations. My understanding is that this is not the case for network events.

We had a similar situation recently in Washington. The Port Townsend Wooden Boats Festival wanted to encourage ridesharing to their event by posting an event in the Drive Less Connect/RideshareOnline/iCarpool system and publishing the event widget. Since their audience is far-flung, they asked us to post their event in the statewide network on their behalf. They then published the event widget on their Web site and we configured the events and their event widget to show only their events. We learned a lot from the process. In addition, Chapter 6 of the Network Administrator's Manual is useful.
