I haven't found a way to edit previously logged trips. Is there a way, other than deleting it and starting over?

I don't know of an option other than delete and replace.

I know.  Problem being that you can't go back further than 28 days.  So, if Google maps inadvertantly places someone in California, it will really skew the measurements. I have submitted an issues log for this.

The fact that some folks (21 outside of King County based on latest pull) are logging long trips was discussed at the last RSO Administrators meeting.  Excerpt from the 9/27/2011 RSO Administrator Meeting Minutes regarding the issue and workaround are below in italics for reference:

Mapping/Long distance trips – maps moved from Bing to Google.  Maps are for entire world.  Some folks don’t realize that their address is actually mapping to some other location ie; a different state or country.  Address field in calendar has now been increased so users can see city, state/country, which may help.  When they log trips, their mileage is increased as a result.  This affects network reports also.

ACTION ITEM:  On a weekly basis, KCMetro will be sending out a report of those commuters that

log trips that are over 150 miles each way.  The destination agency will research each commuter

and follow-up regarding the trip, change in system as necessary.  MaryAnn Aschenbrenner will

handle for all of Oregon.  Anticipate that the report will be sent out each Wednesdays.  Note:  Trips

logged into calendars cannot be edited after 28 days

This issue (and our current workaround) has been noted and communicated to iCarpool for possible action.

Historical context of the 28 day limit for editing records:  Current 28 day threshold to prevent updates to calendar entries is by design and was a requirement defined during Phase I development of the tool.  There were two reasons for the threshold:

1) Stakeholders felt that users are unlikely to accurately recall details of their trips more than a month out.

2) A cutoff date after which calendar entries are not editable was needed for processing incentives and subsidies to ensure there is an accurate record of the users entries used to make the determination of eligibility for the incentive and/or subsidy.

The above requirement did not anticipate the current issue of long trips created in error due to mapping/address errors.  iCarpool is reviewing the scenario and functionality to determine what can be done to address in the longer term.
