I have a company that rewards their employees for "Smart Commuting."  They pay their employees .10 cents per mile for bus/carpool/vanpool commutes and .20/mile for bike/walk commutes.

I'm trying to see if there is a way to configure an incentive program in DLC/RSO that will accommodate the administration of such a program.

The employer can run a subsidy report for the specified time frame and select the commute modes.  But it only shows the total number of trips, but not the mileage.

I imagine we'd have to get creative.  Does anyone have some thoughts?

I don't think there's a way to configure an incentive in the system for a mileage based program. However, I believe there's another option that could meet their needs. Go to reports and click the Network Users Trip Logs Report. You'll see an aggregated summary. Look for the "Click for detailed report (CSV file)" link. If you click it, you'll get an Excel spreadsheet that provides information about each network members trip, including name, email address, trip purpose, mode and commute distance. The employer could create a customized spreadsheet that uses formulas to translate this data into exactly what they need. The spreadsheet translator could, for example, automate the process to produce a list of employees, their commute miles by mode group (rideshare and non-motorized) and their resulting subsidy. Once the spreadsheet is created it could be used over and over for this purpose. If you have questions or would like assistance, let me know. Our agency uses a more complex version of this approach - using Excel as a translator - and it's been working well.

Stan,

I don't have a Network Users Trip Logs Report.  There is the Subsidy Report and the User Trips Report.  The Trips report just show the created trips for ridematching. The subsidy report does show an aggragate trip report for the time period, but it doesn't show a link for "Click for detailed report (CSV File)" link.  Could you send me a screen shot? I must be missing something.

The link for the report is called User Trips Aggregate and Detailed Report. When you click the link, the title of the report shown is Network Users Trip Logs Report. What type of network is this employer using?

OK, gotcha Stan.  I wasn't in a sub-network when I was looking at the reports.  Once into an organization network, that report showed up.  (my bad). I would love to see the excel sheet with formulas that you are using.

But this is very helpful.  Thanks Stan.

The spreadsheet WSDOT is using is infinitely more complex - it combines data from multiple reports and translates them in a variety of ways. To give credit where it is due, Janice Helmann (WSDOT) is the strategic spreadsheet genius who developed it with assists from Dacia Stricklett, Pam Tyler and others. Perhaps it'd be more helpful if I worked with Janice to develop a version designed to meet your employer's needs. I could use this as an opportunity to get some spreadsheet training from Janice and share the results here, where others could check it out. Thursday okay?

Beautiful.  Yes, I've spoken with Janice and she provided me with a spreadsheet before.  She certainly has a much firmer grasp of Excel than I will ever have...
