At yesterday’s network administrator meeting/conference call, we kicked off a discussion about the monthly conference calls. The people who organize these calls have noticed recently that the number of network administrators who participate has dropped and that these calls are less interactive and finish faster than they have been in the past. Why? And what can we do better or differently to provide support to network administrators and make efficient use of our time?

Do you find the monthly network administrator calls useful? When do you choose to participate? When do you opt out? Is a monthly call too frequent? What could we try to improve the calls? What do you need from these calls? Are we meeting your needs?

I have these on my calendar but I seldom (if ever) participate, so I'm not in much (if any) of a postion to comment. That said, here's what I think I can contribute to this discussion: I also seldom (if ever) see an agenda preceding these meetings. I think if there are/were instances in which I knew we planned to discuss an issue of particular interest to me, I wouldn't just be more inclined to participate- I'd make it a point to do so. I also think it wouldn't hurt to cast a net toward admins to see if there are certain hot-ticket items, new ideas or any other pressing matters to discuss at upcoming meetings.

If nothing else, you've got me to thinking about why I haven't participated. If you continue to hold them, I will definitely make a better effort to participate. Thanks for the opportunity to weigh in.
