Hi there,

I have discovered something very disconcerting.  How have the rest of you dealt with this issue?

Let's say we have an organization network  - Lane Transit District (gee how'd I come up with that name?)

Lane Transit District has two worksites.

Everyone who registers and uses their @ltd.org email address is automatically associated with the overarching network.

But if they type in their work address, rather than selecting based on worksite name, they will never be associated with the particular worksite.

That is also an issue for us trying to count our workplace partners that are not set up as a network, but instead are just entered as worksites.

It looks like I may need to go through and create a network for each worksite. But what about the organizations that have multiple worksites?  City of Eugene has about 25.

Hi Tracy,

Hard to stop folks from entering worksites themselves if they're bent to do it. Best you can do is educate folks to pick from the worksite names you've provided, most do/should I think. If they go ahead and name their own, you can proxy into their account and link them w/the correct worksite, or tell them how to do it for themselves. You also may learn what people call where they work other than what you know it as. In this scenario, I'm assuming the person is still associated with the overarching employer/regional network right? So in my mind at least, worksite is less of a big deal. Also, we've been doing passcodes as backup entry-paths for people who use personal email accounts, and it's been working out fine.

I'm curious if your worksites that are set up as only worksites and meant to be sub-networks of the overarching (Lane Transit) have Lane Transit as a parent network. If not, it's easy to go in as worksite/sub network and add Lane Transit as a parent.

The recent network questions are pointing to larger questions for the RSO community, and I don't think there are a lot of clear answers on them yet. Oregon is treading into uncharted territory in some ways regarding large regional /TMA networks meant to overarch other organizations that are at various stages of configuration. One tenent I keep copming back to is "you can always rename, you can't ever re-configure". I hope that at least offers some thoughts.

Christopher

oh yes it offers some thoughts.  I have set up LTD as parent to the two worksites.  But I had to proxy into everyone's account and just reenter their work address by site name rather than by address.

It's not a problem as far as LTD is concerned, but I am trying to figure things out for other networks down the road.  I'm experimenting and trying to find the best solutions for things we need to do, including reporting.

It confuses me why you would have had to proxy into individual's accounts to reenter worksite names. In my experience once a worksite is associated with a parent network and has granted proxy access, that parent network can access sub-networks reports and therefore relevant data, etc, as needed. Were you not seeing the worksites data? What did you expect to see and didn't?

It confuses me too! But apparently they had only entered the street address, so it wasn't associated with the workplace.

When I created the LTD network, everyone with an @LTD.org email was automatically in (about 12), but only 2 people were associated with the workplace.  And yet, we all work at the same place.

And I'm dinking around with my own network and worksite so that I have everything down to a science when I have to give advice and training to other networks.

Hi - finally getting around to reviewing some of these comments.  I think I have the gist of your comment/concern.  When a person chooses to input their work address instead of searching by name, I believe the system will come up with a list of worksites already in system near that address - kind of a 'did you mean this worksite'.  This allows the employee to choose the correct worksite that's already in system. I don't know how close the address has to be for the worksite to show up.  We have had to enter MANY worksites for some of the larger/multiple sites employers - ie; Boeing, Microsoft, AAA, etc... Same with WSDOT.  In the long run, easier to input the worksites so are available for employees to review and choose.

yes that is true. I have discovered that.

Thanks MIka.
