This forum entry posts some background information on University Networks in the iCarpool system.
University networks have been designed specifically to enable staff, students, faculty and alumni to join the main university network and use the system effectively.
Here's how I set up a sample university network.

  1. I created a new network Acme University from the appropriate higher level network (any of State, Regional, County, City or TMA can create university networks). Most universities will have private email domains such as "@univ.edu". I configured Acme University with a private email domain“@acmeuniv.edu”.
  2. The next thing I did is configure the division networks for Acme University. I logged into the Acme University administration portal and configured three division networks "Faculty", "Staff" and "Student". These would probably apply to all universities. Some universities may also want additional divisions such as “Alumni”.
  3. Last, I went to the Settings menu for Acme University and configured the "Display text for Division" as"Affiliation".

That's it - the Acme University network was now ready to use.

Now, when a user signed up with an email address “user@acmeuniv.edu” – the user is associated with Acme University. The initial registration page prompts for the affiliation – so the user can select “Faculty”, “Staff” or “Student”.

The higher level network and division sub-networks mean that administration can be done at the appropriate level. For example, if an incentive is to be launched that is only for Students, then the incentive can be created within the Student division network. On the other hand, if an incentive is to be launched for everyone affiliated with the university, then it could be done from the Acme University network. Similar administration tasks for outreach and reporting could also be performed at the appropriate level.
